I've always been a fan of Costco, not just because of the massive bulk food but because of the cosmetics sets that they sell for super cheap. Stila is one of the brands that almost always has something for sale there and usually the set has an item that is worth more than the price of the set.
I'll tell you a trick to buying the Stila Costco sets though since I've noticed a pattern with their pricing. The kits are normally seasonal, so they'll have a set sold at spring, a set sold at summer set, etc. The sets I've seen will almost always have an initial price of $19.99. After several weeks, the price will drop to $12.97 as they start running out of the sets. Finally, they will drop down in price to $9.97 or cheaper when the newest set comes out.
Case in point, on Sunday I went into Costco and checked out the personal care aisle. If you recall from this post, I got a Stila Summer Kit Warm Edition for $12.97(Down from $19.99). Today, I noticed that it was on sale for $9.97. Next to the summer kit were two new kits, the One Step Primecolor Sets for Warm and Cool tones being sold for $12.99. These sets are on Stila's website in the Last Call Section of the site for $17.79 with a retail value of $66. After some research, these seem to be from Stila's 2010 Summer Collection and the original six primers have been separated into Warm and Cool kits. I also found a mega large Stila palette for sale.
The One Step Primecolor Sets first! I know Stila was on Hautelook* this week so if you were looking at some of the One Step Primecolors, you may want to go to Costco instead.
These are touted as "Primer, eye shadow, highlighter, lip color, cheek color in one; these tubes have everything you need this summer."

This kit has three One Step Primecolors in Pop of Pink, Kitten, and Capri Coral.
Next up is the Warm set. I apologize for the blurry picture, I was doing this on the sly in case any associates were around!

I've only seen a few reviews on them and they seem to agree that Stila is really stretching themselves by calling this a primer, eyeshadow, highlighter, lip color and cheek color. It seems to work best as a blush. You can read Muse's review of three of the colors here. I wasn't sure of the Warm kit at first but the light colors seem to be really light and I don't need a highlighter so the darker/brighter shades in the Warm kit might suit me better.
I didn't purchase them so I can't comment on how good they are but if you like them or want to try them, you should try to go to your local Costco to see if they have this in stock!
I personally am not fond of Stila's giant eyeshadow multi kits but I saw the Ultimate Color Palette for $19.99. I don't believe this has been sold on Stila's site or any other site.

This has 39 eye shadows, 4 cheek colors, 15 lip colors and 8 applicators (double ended) I didn't look for very long but the cheek colors seem to be powders, not creams. I don't like the open mixture of powders and cream lip colors but that's just me. I didn't purchase this so I can't comment on the quality, although others seem to have liked their other multi eyeshadow palettes.
The downside to these amazing sets is the fact that the packaging is the biggest pain in the ass to get open. The sets are covered by this thick plastic connected together through several spots welded together but it's impossible to free both sides of the plastic, you have to cut your way through and the sides are sharp. Here's the link to my last Stila Costco set with a picture of the packaging post-battle. If you have those handy plastic cutting scissors, it's definitely the time to use them.

This is an awesome deal! I'm hoping they will bring stila to Canadian Costcos, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI saw these yesterday at Costco! I wanted to grab them but didn't.
ReplyDeleteI love Costco finds! Especially the selection of different makeup! :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow.. everything on your end is so super cheap. Im jealous. Must come to America and buy buy buy! Lol, you're very observant btw! I would never notice this sort of thing & thus get sucked into paying more =.= You're like a fairy god mother of sales :3
ReplyDeleteI brought the Ultimate Color Palette and am absolutely crazy about all of the eyeshadows. Every one is stunning and packed with pigment. The blushes weren't flattering and I didn't touch the glosses yet. But you can't beat $19.99 for 39 ah-mazing colors.
ReplyDeleteI also HATE the big color wheel, as I can't travel with it and it cheapens the overall quality of the makeup.
